The 2009 highway construction season will create more than 16,000 direct and indirect jobs and expand, repair and improve highways, roads and bridges across the province.
Key construction projects include:
- Widening Highway 401 between Highway 410 and Hurontario Street in Mississauga
- Building 15 kilometres of new Highway Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on the QEW, from Guelph Line in Burlington to Burloak Drive in Oakville
- Widening Highway 401 from four to six lanes from Windsor to Tilbury as part of the Border Infrastructure Fund project
- Continuing the extension of Highway 410 from Mayfield Road to Highway 10 in Brampton and Highway 404 from Green Lane to Ravenshoe Road
- Completing the first phase of construction on the Highway 406 twinning project in Welland.
The McGuinty government is investing a record $2.4 billion in 2009 to keep Ontario’s highways and bridges in top form and stimulate the economy – an increase of 24 percent over last year.
