Elgin County is at the table to promote local food Provincial grant will be used by partner agencies to support local food marketing
ST. THOMAS – Ontario is supporting regional marketing efforts for Ontario foods and strengthening the economy in Elgin County by encouraging more residents and businesses to buy locally grown food.

A local group of food and beverage producers led by Roberto Quai, Owner/President of Quai du Vin Estate Winery, has received a $9,500 grant to assist them in staging a larger designated area at the London Wine & Food Show showcasing Elgin County.

The four-year Ontario Market Investment Fund program has invested close to $4.3 million in 89 projects to date. The program helps develop economic opportunities through trade events, marketing campaigns and industry research initiatives that promote Ontario foods. It is part of the Ontario government’s enhanced investment in ‘buy local’ initiatives.

“When we buy Ontario, and especially local, everyone wins,” Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Steve Peters said. “It’s good for farmers and processors, good for families, good for the environment and good for rural economies. This fund works to expand local food networks and helps communities and industries showcase the abundance of food that is produced and made in Ontario.”

“I have always been a proponent of network marketing and the London Wine & Food Show is an excellent forum by which to showcase Elgin County,” Quai said. “We are bringing together Elgin Tourism Services, the Elgin Business Resource Centre and 15 food and beverage producers to increase Elgin County’s awareness to a larger market. The professional manner in which Elgin will be portrayed at this show could not have been achieved without the support of the Ontario Market Investment Fund.”

QUICK FACTS

• The agri-food industry contributes more than $30 billion to the Ontario economy and employs about 700,000 people.
