Improving employment services in your community Local delivery model moving to one-stop locations with full range of services
ST. THOMAS – Receiving close to home provincial government assistance to find, keep or train for a job is about to get easier.

Over the next several months, Employment Ontario will be changing the way it does business so that Ontarians will be able to find the employment services and training programs they need in a one-stop shop, rather than going from place to place, as many have in the past. Barriers to many of the programs will also be removed with a new focus on individual service to make it easier for people to get the help they need when they need it.

These changes will mean better, more straightforward and consistent service for all Ontarians. The changes will also improve access to the most important services to help Ontarians find and keep a job, apply for training and plan a career that is right for them.

By building a stronger support network for Ontarians, the aim is to help develop the well-trained and highly skilled workforce Ontario needs to remain competitive in today’s global economy.

The improved employment services in the Employment Ontario network will be delivered by a carefully selected network of service providers who are equipped to deliver the full range of employment services to help people find and keep a job. The new model was designed with advice from organizations and agencies experienced in helping people find work and aware of the challenges facing different communities in Ontario.

It is expected the new network to be in place by August 2010. In the meantime, the organizations that currently deliver various employment services will continue to do so. Please check Ontario.ca/Employment to find the services you need in your area.

The government has asked three organizations to provide the new employment services in five locations in Elgin County and two in Dorchester. In Middlesex County, there are additional locations in Glencoe, Lucan, Parkhill and Strathroy. There are also several locations in the City of London. By summer of 2010, job seekers and employers should find a full range of employment services in each of these locations. In the meantime, you can find up-to-date information on where to access service at www.ontario.ca/employmentontario.
