Enhanced facilities to benefit vulnerable residents Provincial government supports social service agencies, creating jobs
ST. THOMAS – The Ontario government is helping create about 450 jobs across the province by supporting infrastructure projects at local not-for-profit social service organizations.

Five not-for-profit social service organizations in Elgin-Middlesex-London will improve their facilities, so they can better serve low income and vulnerable Ontarians, including children, youth and families. The province is investing $142,500 to support these projects which include:

• $90,000 for an elevator replacement at a Women’s Community House facility in London;
• $20,000 to renovate client washrooms at Community Living Elgin;
• $12,500 for washroom improvements at St. Thomas-Elgin Second Stage Housing;
• $10,000 for necessary plumbing work at Violence Against Women Services, Elgin;
• $10,000 to install an iron fence at a Christian Horizons property.

This is part of a $50 million investment over two years to support nearly 1,000 capital projects in communities across the province. These projects will include expansions and renovations that will improve security, accessibility and energy efficiency at eligible social service facilities.

Investing in infrastructure is a critical part of Ontario’s plan to restore growth, save and create jobs in the short term, and build foundations for the future.

“This investment will help local service providers improve their facilities and support vulnerable Ontarians including children, youth and families within their communities,” Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Steve Peters said. “It will also create more jobs and boost economic growth.”
