Ontario Trillium Foundation grant helps keep Stork Club and Big Band legacy alive
$95,000 grant helps Port Stanley organization promote and preserve an era
PORT STANLEY – Preserving and promoting the fond memories of a local heritage icon is being made possible with the help of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Steve Peters joined OTF representative Ann Lapchinski and other members of the community today to celebrate a $95,000 grant from the Foundation. The two-year grant is assisting the Stork Club Big Band Museum & Hall of Fame implement a strategic plan of the interpretive centre dedicated to remembering the Big Band era and the famous local music and dance hall.
“This grant will assist bringing a beloved time and place back to life,” said MPP Steve Peters. “The Stork Club was truly a magical place and although the original building is long gone, its memories and contribution to the local community should never be forgotten. The legacy of the famous dance hall and the Big Band era is being preserved and promoted by a dedicated group of individuals and I am happy that the Ontario Trillium Foundation can help them achieve their goals.”
